About Bala
The bustling market town of Bala is located at the head of Llyn Tegid [Bala Lake] and set within the Snowdonia National Park, which is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty, its famous lake Llyn Tegid is the largest natural lake in Wales and is the only home to a unique fish called the Gwyniad, a relic of the ice age.
It is renowned as a centre for great water-sports including fishing, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, white water rafting and is the headquarters of the narrow gauge Bala Lake Railway.
The town is steeped in history and has a range of interesting shops, inns, restaurants, a historical town walk, plus a leisure centre and a cinema. Surrounded by the wonderful Berwyn Mountains on one side and the beautiful Snowdonia Mountain Range on the other, this is a mecca for climbing, walking, mountain biking and many other outdoor activities.
An ideal location for touring North and Mid Wales including the stunning Cambrian Bay Coast, with its six mile long Harlech beach which is overlooked by its majestic castle.
Bala also easily accessible from the Manchester area at approximately 1hr 30mins and Birmingham at approximately 1hr 45mins away.
